Making Counseling Appointments

The Counseling Department at Jefferson High School is located in the front office and has an open door with their counselor.

The benefit of a smaller school is that counselors are able to see most students immediately or within the same day. Students need to have permission and a pass from their teacher in order to speak

There are a few instances where appointments are preferred:

  • If parents/guardians or other stakeholders would like to meet with a counselor please call or email that student’s counselor directly to schedule an appointment.
  • If a student is in need of a Graduation Plan for court, counselors prefer at least one week’s notice to prepare this document.

If parents/guardians would like to meet regarding college/career planning, including financial aid, for their student please contact Laura directly at the email/number above. Graduating students will be pulled individually during school hours in order to complete any college or career-related processes and testing.

Making Schedule Changes

At the beginning of each quarter, counselors can meet with individual students for schedule changes. There is a “Schedule Change Sign Up Sheet'' posted on the outside of the office door. Counselors use this list to pull students throughout the first week of each quarter and address individual student’s needs. Please remember that it is the counselor's job to place students in the classes that are needed to fulfill graduation requirements, however, students do have input on certain classes within each subject area.

Academic Advisement & Intervention Period

Any student failing excessive courses may be placed in a Jag Time advisement period to have the opportunity to improve grades while in an elective class. Students may also be referred to Saturday School or Summer School.
