Fifty years ago, in December 1961, a tragic bus-train accident just east of Greeley took the lives of 20 children and injured 16 others. East Memorial Elementary School, which opened two years later, was named in honor of those on board the bus that day. On October 13, 2011, the school held a remembrance and tree-planting ceremony at the school.
